A message from your Club President Chris Murphy

Hi Members,

Club Meeting – Tuesday 2 March 2021 – start time is 7.30pm.

Our first meeting for the year was our AGM, and now that is over and done with, we can move into our regular program of meetings and entertainment.

Please note some very important points:

1. New start time of 7.30pm.  Previously we started at 8pm, but our Zoom and Committee Meetings have been at 7.30, so it will be easier to coordinate if all BSSA meetings start at 7.30.  Our November meeting last year started at this time, and allowed an earlier finish.

2. New Hall – our meetings for 2021 will be held at Unley Community Centre – 18 Arthur Street, Unley. Our new venue is only 3 kilometres from the Sturt Street Hall we have used for a number of years.
As members would have been aware from our communications last year, the Sturt Street Hall has been sold and the Adelaide City Council are in the process of purchasing a new Community Centre to replace it.  So for 2021, we have moved to the Unley Community Centre.  Hopefully from 2022, we will be back in the Adelaide City Council area.
The Unley Hall also has the potential for up to 105 attendees, significantly more than the 30 we were limited to at Sturt Street.

3. Our March meeting will feature presentations from Wayne Weidenhofer and Troy Holmes on the strategies and tactics these gentlemen use to control flecking in their birds.  As we all know, the current judging standard carries some significant penalties for flecking depending on the level visible on your bird.  For those members unsure of the “flecking” concept, it would be a great opportunity to learn at this meeting.

4. Following the Annual General Meeting in early February, we welcome Ian Jenke and Troy Holmes onto the BSSA Committee.  Ian has taken on the role of Ring Steward, and Troy has filled a Committee position.  Once again, our thanks are extended to Wayne Bandt, Mike Crossley and Jim Butterworth – our retiring Committee members for their support and help on the Committee over a number of years.

5. The most recent BCSA meeting was held at the end of January, and whilst we covered off the main points at the Club meeting, for those who missed the meeting, they are,
  1. The BCSA was fully committed to holding the Logan Shield and selecting a team for the 2021 ANBC Show in Bendigo ( subsequent to the meeting, the ANBC Show has been cancelled, but the Logan Shield will still be held)
  2. The BCSA is planning to hold a face to face auction later this year – presumably July.
  3. This year, the best bird presented in Open, Intermediate and Novice exhibition status at the Logan Shield will be recognized as well as the variety winners.
  4. The ANBC is working through ideas for a new Management structure. This is in its infancy at this point, however the BCSA has some suggestions/alterations to present back to the ANBC.

6. Novice & Intermediate ShowOur annual Novice and Intermediate Show will be held this year, following the COVID cancellation in 2020.
It will be held on 27 March, at the home of Marie & Kerry Murphy.
Some significant cash prizes are available at the Show along with a travel incentive of $25 for those members travelling 50KM or further to the Show venue.
Entry forms and additional details are on the BSSA website http://www.bssainc.org.au/

7.
On-Line Auctions – as I am sure members are aware, the on-line auctions have recommenced this year.  In fact we are into week 4 already.  All our members have the opportunity to enter their birds in the auctions, please call Ian Wise or any member of the Committee if you are interested. This weeks auction can be found here https://www.32auctions.com/organizations/66879/auctions/98933/auction_items/2800110

Please keep in touch with the BSSA Facebook page for further Club information including detail about the shows and auctions.

Thanks you and Best Wishes,
Chris Murphy
