THE NEXT BSSA "COME & TRY NIGHT"
Tuesday 3rd October 2023
“It’s time to give back. It’s time to grow the grass roots”
That was the over-riding message from the BSSA committee meeting. Our auctions and online Zoom meetings have been a greater success than anyone could have first envisioned. They have facilitated a great way to buy and sell during COVID, and the Zoom meetings have taken us for an armchair ride around some of the best aviaries in the country and across the globe from the comfort of our living room. Moreover, the requirement to social distance has made us all a bit closer and fostered the development of bringing this hobby closer together as a community. All great outcomes for this wonderful hobby.
So, we thought it was time to give to grow. The idea conceived last year was to make sure that the beginners in the BSSA get access to some open breeder’s birds. Several of the Club’s open breeders and Zoom interviewees have gotten their heads together, and donated some of their lesser birds, for the beginners.
There is no catch.
Yes, they could have sold them, but we’ve all decided we want to give back. This is about growing the hobby. Growing the grass roots. Growing the next generation of breeders. Several open breeders selling at our weekly auctions have chipped in, such is the spirit of people in this hobby, and the group of birds for the night continues to grow daily.
So, how do you get access to these birds?
It is quite simple really.
You need to be a beginner, you need to sign up as a member of the BSSA by Monday the 21st of February (so the committee can ratify your membership), and you need to be physically present on the night of Tuesday July 4th at our meeting in Unley.
That is it.
We just want to show you in one night why this hobby is so great, and why we love it.
The night will include some speed dating presentations from our Open Breeders, directed specifically to people new to the hobby. Topics covered will include “How to set up a breeding cage”, “Colours and Varieties in Budgerigars”, and more general information directed towards beginners to the hobby. There will also be prizes and giveaways on night. This night is all about giving back.
So, if you know someone who is toying with the idea of getting into keeping, breeding, or exhibiting budgerigars, this would be a great experience to get along to.
And it feels great to give!
The Meeting is on Tuesday July 4th 2023 held at The Unley Community Centre 18 Arthur Street Unley SA 5061
